About The Project

Reservoir Street serves as an important link connecting Rockingham County and the southern end of the city with JMU and downtown Harrisonburg. It is located in a rapidly growing part of the region. Numerous developments throughout the corridor are in various stages of the approval and construction process, including:

  • The new Rockingham Memorial Hospital location south of the city is also expected to attract new traffic to the corridor.
  • Several new apartment and townhouse complexes along Reservoir Street within city limits.

Because of this rapid growth and need for improved bicyclist/pedestrian accommodations, the city has recognized the need to plan ahead for the future traffic operations of the area. In September 2006 the City of Harrisonburg selected the firm of McCormick Taylor, Inc. to lead the engineering design and environmental tasks associated with improvements to the corridor.
