Records is responsible for the maintenance of all Departmental Police Records of incident reports, crash reports, criminal arrests and traffic citations. The average number of records include 4,100 Incident Reports, 1,200 Crash Reports, 5,000 Traffic Citations and 6,100 Criminal Arrests annually. The clerks support statistical data on a monthly and yearly basis and provide patrol and investigations with analytical information. Records is staffed by seven full-time and 1 part-time Records Clerks, 1 Records Supervisor, and 1 Warrant Officer. They supply service for requests by customers or agents acting on their behalf.
Office hours are Monday through Friday 8AM to 8PM. The building is locked after hours and on weekends, but a clerk is always available at the front window for emergencies needing police assistance.
Requests for reports, background checks, fingerprints or other services must be made in person or by mail between the hours of 8AM and 5PM. Requests for background checks must include a signed waiver or notarized letter. Call 540-437-2650 for further information.
