Yard Debris - Grass, Brush, Hedge Trimmings, Leaves etc.
Yard debris is collected citywide every Wednesday. MAXIMUM 5 UNITS PER WEDNESDAY
The City of Harrisonburg will only accept yard debris contained in the following:
- 35 gallon (or less) container without plastic liner
- Bundled with twine or rope (non plastic)
- Biodegradable yard bags
Bundle Dimensions:
Maximum size - 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, 2 feet high
Maximum Weight - 75 pounds
Maximum limb diameter - 2 inches
Please have all yard debris out by 7:00AM the day of collection.
Yard Debris Container Rental
The City of Harrisonburg Public Works Department also offers the use (for a fee) of a 10 yard roll-off container to be used only for yard debris removal. Applicants must meet all requirements on the application below. Please call (540) 434-5928 for questions.

Bulk Items Collection
Furniture, appliances and other acceptable items will be collected once per month as follows: MAXIMUM 5 UNITS PER WEDNESDAY
Regular trash day Bulk collection day is:
Monday.......................................The 1st Wednesday of each month
Tuesday......................................The 2nd Wednesday of each month
Thursday.....................................The 3rd Wednesday of each month
Friday..........................................The 4th Wednesday of each month
