The Harrisonburg Police Department utilizes specially trained evidence technicians to assist with investigations. Each of the four patrol squads have at least one officer assigned to do this work, in addition to their normal job requirements. Utilizing a collection of specialized equipment, these technicians work closely with our investigators and other officers to identify, collect and process physical evidence from crime scenes. An evidence technician has also been added as staff to the Criminal Investigations Division. His role is to coordinate evidence collection with major cases such as rapes, robberies and murders, in addition to training and review of current evidence handling and processing procedures for our police department.
