Administrative Bureau

The Administrative Bureau of the Harrisonburg Police Department provides essential law enforcement and public safety services while promoting community involvement and enhancing the quality of life for the citizens and visitors to the City.  The Administrative Bureau exemplifies professionalism and dedication through the use of partnerships, creative problem solving, innovative police strategies, and the use of state of the art techniques and technologies in keeping with the plans and direction of the Department.

 




Captain D.L. Claytor
Administrative Bureau Commander

Captain Dan Claytor began his career with HPD in 1971 as a dispatcher and in 1974 he was promoted to Police Officer after graduating from the Basic Police Academy. In 1979 he began an extensive career in Criminal Investigations, serving as an Investigator and Commander of the Investigations Division for sixteen years. Since that time he has served as Commander of Operations and Support Services. He currently is the Commander of the Administrative Bureau.

In addition to his diverse experience, Captain Claytor has had a special focus in crisis management, serving over twenty years as a member and Commander of the SWAT Team, Negotiator, and Incident Commander. He has also written grant proposals that resulted in over $2.5 million in funding for equipment and overtime.

Captain Claytor has an Associates Degree in Administration of Justice from Blue Ridge Community College and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
