South Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way Improvements

The scope of the project included improving South Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way with the addition of turn lanes, signal reconstruction, and shared use path. Improvements included:

For South Main Street – construction of new right turn lane from northbound South Main Street onto eastbound Martin Luther King Jr. Way; reconstruction of existing signal at South Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way due to the right turn lane construction and to bring the signal up to current City standard; and reconstruction of sidewalk along South Main Street due to right turn lane construction.

For Martin Luther King Jr. Way – construction of approximately 700' of new shared use path along the south side of Martin Luther King Jr. Way from South Main Street to South Mason Street; widen approximately 1000' of Martin Luther King Jr. Way to allow for the addition of left turn lanes from both eastbound and westbound Martin Luther King Jr. Way onto northbound and southbound South Mason Street; reconstruction of existing signal at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and South Mason Street due to widening of Martin Luther King Jr. Way; and reconstruction of existing sidewalk on the south side of Martin Luther King Jr. Way from South Mason Street east towards Ott Street, within the widening limits.  This work was funded by a VDOT Smart Scale grant.
