Downtown Streetscape Plan

The Plan's overall goal is: "To present an easily communicable, comprehensive vision for the public streetscape in Downtown Harrisonburg that can be utilized by public and private agencies to further develop and sustain a vibrant downtown."

Chicago Avenue Corridor Study

The Chicago Avenue Corridor Study focuses on Chicago Avenue from Gay Street to Mt. Clinton Pike, Mt. Clinton Pike from Lincolnshire Drive, just beyond the city line, to Virginia Avenue (VA Route 42), and Park Road and Parkwood Drive where they run through the campus of Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and Eastern Mennonite High School (EMHS).

Bluestone Trail Project

In 2015, the City of Harrisonburg and James Madison University were awarded $364,500 from Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Revenue Sharing funds to extend the Bluestone Trail from Sonner Hall to Carrier Drive on JMU campus.

Safe Routes to School Maps

These maps are guides to help parents select a route for their student to walk or bike to school. Each map includes landmarks, recommended gathering locations where families might meet up and walk or bike to school together, and approximate distance and travel time between the gathering locations and the school.
