This project addresses multiple safety concerns on the Port Republic Road corridor between Hunters Rd and Devon Lane, as identified in the Port Republic Road Safety and Operations Study completed in 2019. Installation of a signal at Bradley Drive, with an associated left turn lane on Port Republic Road, will improve safety and decrease delays in the peak hours for those entering and exiting the neighborhood. Hunters Road will be made a right-in/right-out at Port Republic Road due to significant safety concerns with left turns at the intersection. To further improve safety, a 3’ wide concrete median will be constructed between Bradley Drive and Devon Lane to eliminate left-turn conflicts in the functional area of both intersections. The addition of crosswalks and pedestrian signals at Bradley Drive will improve pedestrian safety and access along Port Republic Road which is a high pedestrian corridor, with a long-distance between crosswalks. Sidewalk and bike lanes on Port Republic Road will be rebuilt where impacted by this project. Project funded through the VDOT SMART SCALE program.
