Harrisonburg Paratransit is a specialized public transportation service that operates within the City of Harrisonburg for persons who have disabilities as described in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Wheelchair accessible vehicle service is offered for trips within the City of Harrisonburg.

Basic Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday
6:30am - 7:00pm

Saturday
8:30am - 5:30pm

Service Hours when JMU is in Session and Transit Buses are Running:
Monday through Friday
6:30am - 11:00pm

Saturday
8:30am - 11:00pm

Sunday
1:00pm - 10:00pm

 

What is ADA Paratransit Service:

The Department of Transportation Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into federal law in 1990. This is a civil rights law that requires all public entities operating fixed route transit to provide complementary paratransit to persons with disabilities. Eligibility is to be strictly limited to certain categories of individuals. 

 

Requirements:
All persons who use this service must be issued a paratransit card. Applications are available in the Public Transit office located at 475 E. Washington Street. You may request an application through the mail by contacting Katelynn Noser (540-432-0492) or download the application.

Cost:
$2.00 per one-way trip within the city limits.  You must have the correct amount for your fare; the driver will not make change.

Assistance:
Passengers who require a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) will be allowed such assistance at no extra cost. Paratransit cards will be marked to acknowledge this requirement. Otherwise, additional passengers will pay $2.00. Drivers are not allowed to enter homes or destinations to assist passengers, or to assist with packages.
