The Victim Services Liaison Unit of the Harrisonburg Police Department has been implemented to benefit victims and witnesses of crime.

As HPD continues to build partnerships and relationships with the community, they also want citizens to understand some basic fundamental rights they have when encountering law enforcement.

HPD's Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was formally established in June of 1993 by retired Chief of Police Donald Harper. The purpose of the Community Advisory Committee is to act in an advisory capacity to the Harrisonburg Police Department by bringing feedback from the community concerning public safety issues.

In an effort to reduce false alarms, the City of Harrisonburg has created a false alarm ordinance.

The Harrisonburg Police Department recognizes seven geographic districts within the city, which are overseen by patrol sergeants.

Mental Illness Crisis Team officers have received additional training to help individuals who may be in a mental health crisis.
