Roadway reconfigurations have a role to play in the City of Harrisonburg's efforts toward safer roads and a more connected network of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

The Harrisonburg Community Bike Map is a resource to help bicyclists choose routes along city streets and separated paths to get them to school, work, and around the City.

Through collaboration between city departments, school staff, and community partners, we will work toward safer streets and school campuses, safe pedestrian, bicyclist, and motorist behavior, and a culture that values active transportation.

These maps were utilized in 2023 and served as guides to help parents select a route for their student to walk or bike to school

Team Up to Slow Down is a program that partners citizens with city staff to work on slowing down the speeding problems in local neighborhoods.

In early 2019, Harrisonburg Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments began planting pollinator spaces that are creating a pollinator corridor through The Friendly City.
