Department Mission Statement
The Department of Planning and Community Development is committed to offering professional and courteous customer service while striving for and promoting sound planning, engineering, and building practices, and, together with the community, works to provide a more desirable, livable, safe, and enduring built environment.
Division Mission Statements
Divisions within the department work together as one collaborative team toward the department’s mission but each have their own pursuits as identified below.
Building Inspections: The Building Inspections Division, pursues quick and efficient review of plans and inspections for fair interpretation and enforcement of all State-adopted building codes and associated regulations, while educating the public and promoting safety.
Engineering: The Engineering Division provides professional services in engineering, surveying, geographic information systems (GIS), stormwater management and erosion and sediment control to create a high-quality, lasting and manageable developed environment.
Planning and Zoning: The Planning and Zoning Division promotes development as desired by the community through the Comprehensive Plan and with consistent application of the zoning and subdivision regulations and other land use codes.
