Elevator Permit Information
An elevator permit is required for the design, construction, installation, alteration, and repair of an elevator or conveyance system. The work must be performed by a qualified elevator mechanic.
Inspection Requirements
Six-month, annual and 5-year third-party elevator inspections must be performed by a qualified elevator inspector and/or mechanic and submitted to the Building Official. This Elevator Inspection Report (EIR) must be included with the inspection documents. Third-party inspections may be submitted online at https://permits.harrisonburgva.gov/ or via email to permits@harrisonburgva.gov.
How to Apply for a Permit
Online: Submit applications, track and pay for permits online via the LAMA Permit Portal. The Elevator Permit application is available under the Other Permits tab. If you are a contractor and need a registration code, call the Department of Community Development at 540-432-7700 or email permits@harrisonburgva.gov.

How to Submit a Third Party Inspection Report
Online: To submit an annual or 5-year third party inspection report online via the LAMA Permit Portal, select the Renew option. If you have not previously submitted elevator inspection reports online, please contact the Department of Community Development at 540-432-7700 or email permits@harrisonburgva.gov.
Via email: Complete the Elevator Inspection Report (EIR) [274KB]. Email the EIR and the third-party report to permits@harrisonburgva.gov.
