Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and Reservoir Street Intersection

The Harrisonburg Public Works Department is preparing to reconfigure a busy intersection to improve the flow of traffic in the area of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and Reservoir Street.

The intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Reservoir Street will be reconfigured to improve traffic operations. This will significantly reduce delays that motorists currently experience in the northbound direction of Reservoir Street.

The most noticeable change will be on Reservoir Street, where dual left turn lanes will be added to the northbound approach. A separate left turn lane on the southbound approach of Reservoir Street will also be established. Also on the southbound approach to the intersection, painted chevrons will be added to indicate a lane that prohibits traffic. Drivers should not use this lane because there will be no receiving lane on the other side of the intersection.

Permanent signs and directional lane markings will continue to aid in directing motorists.

This work will take place during nighttime hours starting Monday, July 9, 2018 and will continue throughout the week. Signs will be posted to notify all motorists approaching this intersection of the new traffic pattern.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution in this area while the work is being conducted and upon its completion.
