Date: Friday, April 12, 2019
Time: 9:00am
Location: City Council Chambers, 409 S Main St, Harrisonburg, VA 22801
The City of Harrisonburg will host a pre‐construction meeting related to downtown infrastructure improvements on Friday, April 12 at 9:00am in City Council Chambers.
The meeting will outline two projects to improve downtown infrastructure. The first is Streetscape Phase III, which continues the downtown streetscape improvements including brick paver sidewalks along both sides of Main Street, from Elizabeth Street to Wolfe Street. Second, city staff will provide information about a project that will replace both water and sewer lines along East Market Street, from Main to Mason Streets.
These public utilities lines are some of the oldest in the city and need to be replaced. Part of this project will also improve the sidewalks along Market Street to include the brick paver style hardscaping used elsewhere in conjunction with the City’s Streetscape Plan. The April 12 public meeting is part of efforts by both the city and Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance to aid in providing information on the scope and schedule of these projects as well as to answer the questions from downtown businesses, residents and members of the larger public.
Currently, it is anticipated that these projects will overlap, with the Streetscape Phase III improvements set to begin at the end of April and the Market Street improvements to begin in early May. The City and Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance are working diligently to ensure disruption to downtown businesses is minimized.
