Ralph Sampson Park

Ralph Sampson Park has two picnic shelters, restroom facilities, three basketball courts, playground equipment, a sports field, and our Futsal complex.

The Central Shenandoah Hazard Mitigation Plan (CSHMP) identifies natural and other hazards that impact the five counties, five cities, and eleven towns within the Central Shenandoah Region.

Zoning Information

The zoning regulations and districts have been made in accordance with the comprehensive plan, to promote, in accordance with present and future needs, the health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the citizens of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and to provide for efficiency and economy in the process of development.

Backyard Chickens Permit

Residents who meet requirements of City Code Section 15-2-24 may apply for a permit to keep chickens within Harrisonburg city limits.

South Main Street: Mosby Road to Stone Spring Road

The project adds a 3' wide concrete median on S. Main Street from just south of Mosby Rd to Stone Spring Rd/Erickson Ave, with a break to maintain a full access entrance to Dukes Plaza.

Annual Smoke Alarm and Free Pizza Night

City residents can order one large cheese pizza to be delivered by fire personnel on July 10th. Firefighters will also check to see if the resident’s smoke alarm is working properly.

June 18th Primary

The Virginia June Dual Primary is on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024. The polls are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm on the day of the primary.

Voter Registrar

The City Registrar's office maintains accurate voter records, registers residents to vote, and conducts elections.

Community Connectors

Harrisonburg was selected in September 2023 to be the recipient of a Community Connectors Program grant through national nonprofit Smart Growth America and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Public Utilities

The Department of Public Utilities is responsible for providing water and sewer services to residences and businesses in the City of Harrisonburg and some in neighboring Rockingham County.
