Childcare PhotoParks and Recreation Preschool and School Age Activities

Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation offers recreationally based programs for children in Kindergarten up to the participant’s 12th birthday.  (Upon turning 12 participants are eligible for teen membership to the Community Activities Center which requires a parent to come in and obtain.) These programs are restricted to City of Harrisonburg Residents only.  Through a balance of free play and organized activities we strive to provide the best possible care for your child.  These programs are NOT licensed childcare programs through the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Age-appropriate recreational programs may include:

  • Active Games designed to teach teamwork, communication skills, and to facilitate stress reduction through physical activity.
  • Passive Games designed to teach sharing and cooperation skills.
  • Space for individual activities such as reading or homework.

It is our mission to always put the safety and security of your child above all else.
